7/2 - Dalbo, MN to Royalton, MN
Leaving the bicycle bunk house in Dalbo was tough. This was one of the coolest places we have stayed for sure - and did I mention that I stayed in a grain silo???
That night, we camped in Royalton..
The local MS Society sponsored dinner and we were treated to lots of homemade dishes.
7/3 - Royalton, MN to Osakis, MN
This day was this first of two days on the Lake Wobegon Trail. We stopped at Jordie's Cafe in Bowlus. Lots of fun that morning. The waitresses and owners were hilarious and we topped off breakfast playing musical pies...so that we all sampled different types.
7/4 - Osaksis,MN to Fergus Falls,MN
This was a windy forth of July
Ron and Ryan swam the lake while we all hovered around the grill while burgers and brats cooked slowly.
That night, I went to the race track and fireworks with Jen, Justin, Andy, Bethany and Duncan. There were about two hours of racing which was fun to watch. We tried to pick the winners at the start of each race....if we had been betting, none of us would have won any money! At the end, we huddled under a tarp to shield us from the dirt that was kicking up off the track. The night capped off with 20 minutes of fireworks over the speedway.
7/5 - Fergus Falls to Fargo 57..
When you can see forever, it is a double-edged sword. You can see where towns and rest stops are and where they are NOT. I often scan the horizon for a signs of a water tower so I know that we are getting close.
On the day we were crossing into Fargo, it was hot and the roads seemed to stretch for forever. I had a long rest stop with Bethany and Duncan on the way into Fargo at the Old 52 convenience store. We shared a pizza and sampled sodas from the extensive collection.
As I left, it was 10 miles to Fargo and it was definitely the heat of the day. Pedaling in, my water bottle alternated with water to drink and water to pour on my head...I arrived at the North Dakota State dorms that evening EXHAUSTED and happy to find air conditioning, showers and laundry. Kristin and Rob brought me leftover pizza since I rolled in later that night....and the whole team sat and watched Iron Man in air-conditioned bliss...looking forward to a rest day the next day...including a local service project.
