7/16 - Malta to Havre - 70 miles
The headwinds were against us this day, but they were not too crazy. It definitely helped to pace with Richard and Justin.
We were aware that the last three miles into Havre were under construction. When we got to the last three miles, there was two way traffic on a major highway that had been turned into a dirt and gravel slip and slide obstacle course.
We wove through traffic, almost wiped out a few times on loose gravel and mud...and finally found some solace in a third dirt lane that was unused by traffic.
When it was time to weave back in among the trucks and farm equipment, I was just following Richard and Justin and tried not to think about the situation....just focused on getting through this sketchy section of road.
At the end, when we reached the paved road, it felt like we were sliding on glass.....ahhhh...
Unfortunately, Justin got a flat so we stopped to change out his tube. I sent the picture tweet with a message : "just finished the dirt obstacle course construction zone with Justin&Richard. Glad we ride mountain bikes..' I was surprised that Justin was the only flat.
Apparently, one of our riders found a better alternative to a boring water bottle..
We stayed at a church that night and went out for Mexican food that came in crazy large portions...biker sized portions - we finished it all!!!
