So Freakin Eerie and the Church of the Drunken Pigs

When we woke up in Spencerport, we were treated to the smells of bacon and eggs and pancakes.  The pastor and a couple of his helpers made us a fabulous spread for breakfast which would fuel our 56 mile ride to Lockport - 50 miles on the Eerie Canalway Trail.

As lovely as that sounded, day two on the bike path was not as cool as day 1.  It was still beautiful...but it had rained the night before so the sand / gravel combo was a bit like pedaling through molasses in the hot sun.

Many of us rode together and slogged along...but it was pretty much flat with bridges and no shade for 50 miles.

When we arrived in Lockport, we stored our bikes in the church where we would sleep that night.  We chatted with the minister and a couple of folks from the congregation... One of the women who helped has MS.  She thanked us for what we were doing and told us about her family.  Interestingly, she was in her 60's and her family came from Germany - just like my mom.

The minister told a great story about the church.  In the olden days, the building was used for booze and gambling.  The owner got religion at some point and came back and dumped out all the alcohol in his stores... Local farmers had to come pick up their pigs because they were too drink to walk home.

Wings and pizza catered that night -with deserts and ice cream.  After two days of no showers, I was also able to wash up at the pastor's house....and was blissfully contented as I fell asleep downstairs next to the craft table in the kids room of the church.
